The digital has become part and parcel to many of our lives. For many of us it may be difficult in a given day to know whether the plans we made for dinner were sorted face to face, by phone, or by email. The ever present smartphone has taken the digital world, and for many of us our work world, and brought it into our daily lives. We are now able to connect with others with a speed and ubiquity that was unimaginable for most of us even ten or fifteen years ago. These changes have created spaces of innovation and creativity that we have only begun to explore, and we've lost some of the privacy we'd once taken for granted.
All this change, however, did not spring from the grass unconnected from our past. All this innovation is built on management models, communications strategies and technical infrastructure that was built to last, not to create. As we move into a world where connecting to clients is as much about creating an honest and authentic social presence as an extension of corporate identity as it is about refining specific messages, it is critical that we find paths to change that match up with directions indicated by trends in our industry.
